This is exciting news if you have ever dreamt of going to explore the mysterious middle kingdom otherwise known as China, you’ll be able to hop on a flight at Gold Coast airport and you’ll be landing in China in no time.
It’s also a big boon for the Gold Coast tourism sector, with lots of Chinese tourists expected to take advantage of the direct flights and to see the Gold Coast. I would expect that most tourists from China would be part of group travel, as is the norm in China itself. There may be a few independent travelers but not many I would imagine, so it will be interesting as to where the tour organizers choose to stay and what attractions they’ll be taking in.
The new flights have come about due to in part a partnership between Jetstar and The China travel agency, Hubei Wanda New Airline International Travel Services Co. Ltd, which is part of the Dalian Wanda Group who is developing the Jewel Apartments on the Surfers Paradise beachfront.
Jetstar will operate this service on a B787 aircraft with 335 seats on board. Jetstar will operate the Wuhan service on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The city of Wuhan, with a population of 10 million people, is the capital of Hubei Province in China which has an overall population of 57 million people. Travel beyond Wuhan throughout China is possible from the capital’s airport and high speed rail system.
