Sand Safari Arts Festival took place in 2020 on Surfers Paradise beach which became a live art gallery over 17 days with spectacular themed artworks being formed from the natural sand.
The event featured sand sculpting demonstrations, live entertainment, art exhibitions and interactive workshops from dawn till dusk along with the running of the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships (ASSC).
Other artworks on display included
- “Harps of the City”, eight giant public instrumental harps, will be placed along the beachfront designed by Artists Joseph Burgess and Joshua Wilkinson.
- 500 electric blue “Migration” solider crabs by local artist Clayton Blake.
- The Artist Plaza in Cavill Mall will be featuring local works.
- A 45-tonne sand recreating of Jack and the Beanstalk along with seven dwarfs.
- A 35-tonne sand interactive sand culture attraction from Monday 17 February to Friday 21 February.
- Speed carving events on Saturday 22, Sunday 23, Saturday 29 February and Sunday 1 March.
- Little Hansels and Gretel’s that “Dare to Dream” themed artworks by Surfers Paradise State School
