The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games takes place from the 4th of April to the 15th of April and already many places in the central Gold Coast area are booked out.
Prices for the remaining available accommodation options have escalated dramatically with room prices doubling. So I am going to highlight some alternatives where you can still find value.
First of all here is a search at Booking.com for the cheapest rooms that are still available on the Gold Coast.
If you can’t find anything there you may want to consider looking outside the Gold Coast area, if you have a car or get a hire car, this won’t be much of an issue, alternatively, I’ll suggest public transport options if they exist.
Tweed Heads – It’s just past Gold Coast’s southernmost suburb and a superb place to be any time of year with beautiful beaches and relaxed atmosphere. There are about 21 different accommodation options here. The 700 bus runs from Griffith St in Coolangatta every 8 mins and it takes about 30 min to reach Broadbeach/Surfers Paradise. Mount Tamborine – this is a stunningly beautiful area set among the rainforests and the Gold Coast Hinterland. There are numerous wineries out here, day spas, retreats, and boutique accommodation options. There’s no public transport to here. See here for all the accommodation in Mount Tamborine
Brisbane – yes Brisbane, while it sounds like a world away it might be an option to consider. There is an efficient train service which runs between the two cities taking about 1 hr 20 min travel time. And the station on the Gold Coast is very near to Carrara Stadium. Here is a link to the train schedule Brisbane to Gold Coast. If this is an option, choose a hotel in Brisbane that’s near the Central Station, Roma Street Station, or South Bank Station.
