Bartercard Sail Paradise

Bartercard Sail Paradise is four days of off-shore ocean racing with on-shore events centered around the Southport Yacht Club.

Event Background

Sail Paradise began in 1984 and was originally known as the Surfers Paradise Yacht Club regatta. It started as a small local sailing event amongst club members. In the late 1980s and 1990s, the regatta began growing in size and stature, attracting interstate and eventually international competitors on trajectories of famous sailors like Tom Slingsby.

A key moment was in the 2000s when it was officially renamed Sail Paradise and expanded to a week-long format with additional race classes added. This helped boost participation numbers. Major sponsorship from Paradise Resort and support from Tourism Queensland further elevated the profile of the event globally.

By 2010, Sail Paradise welcomed over 300 boats and had become firmly established on the international keelboat racing calendar, drawing world-class sailors. The introduction of new superships and foiling catamaran classes in recent years has enhanced the excitement and spectating opportunities.

In 2023, it changed dates to be held in three days in October with 2024 dates TBA.
